Richmond Mounties late Tuesday afternoon released a forensic sketch of a suspect being sought for questioning in an incident at James Whiteside Elementary School in South Richmond last week.

Richmond RCMP described the incident—in which a 10-year-old girl was grabbed by a stranger who was taking photos of the area shortly before the lunch hour last Wednesday morning (Nov. 15)—as suspicious.

“The police do wish to speak to this person of interest. If anyone from the community recognizes him, they are urged to contact the Richmond RCMP,” Richmond RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang said.

The suspect is described as an Asian male, between 40 and 50 years old, who stands about five feet seven inches to five feet 10 inches tall. He has a medium build, black hair, was clean shaven and was wearing brown pants and a black and blue sweater.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Richmond RCMP Cpl. Jason Pickering, of the youth section, at 604-278-1212.

In a letter sent out to parents, James Whiteside principal Rachael Corneil described the incident in greater detail.

According to the letter, the student was “approached by a man attempting to take pictures of her at the far end of our field. As she turned to walk away, he pulled on her arm to take another picture. She ran back to the school and the police were notified.”
